I feel passionately about women having a safe place to discuss their most intimate concerns.
Caring for women in their own homes or in my office space, where we can discuss their concerns over a cup of tea, where no one else is waiting or demanding my time and attention, is my goal. Taking the "office" out of an office visit, so women do not have to miss a day of work or hire a babysitter — re-imagining women's health care — creates a relationship built on listening, trust, and comfort.
I currently work from my home office in Catskill, NY, and I am able to see clients throughout the Hudson Valley as well as in Manhattan. My practice includes holistic gynecology, complete prenatal care and childbirth services, and childbirth education. From 2011 - 2014, I worked full time in the HealthQuest OB/midwifery practice at Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck, NY, and in addition to my private practice, I now work part time in the HealthQuest practice attending births.
Prior to moving upstate, I worked at several hospitals in NYC including University Hospital of Brooklyn SUNY Downstate and Beth Israel Medical Center, as well as part of a gynecology practice at the Ryan-Nena Community Health Center. I also spent many years on the faculty of the St. Luke’s - Roosevelt Hospital Parent Education department, where I taught preparation for childbirth, birth center birth, and newborn care. Throughout my professional career, I have also worked as a doula, and taught private childbirth classes.
Much of my life was spent as a professional dancer, performing nationally and internationally with several modern dance companies. I taught dance technique, choreography, and anatomy for dance at Swarthmore College, Barnard College, and in Paris. During that time, I became certified as an Alexander Technique teacher, and have also worked in other bodywork therapies.
Towards the end of my dance career, I became pregnant with my first child and was introduced to midwifery. The supportive and holistic care I received during my pregnancy and labor fueled my desire to become a midwife and childbirth educator. In 1997, I received my master’s degree from Columbia University and since then have worked in a variety of settings, including hospitals, birth centers, and homes. In my work, I emphasize the normalcy of pregnancy and birth, and help my clients with individualized approaches to meet each woman’s unique needs.
I have given birth to my two wonderful children, Lia (1990) and Zack (1988), and, since 2004, am a proud stepmother of my husband’s two children, Adam and Eliza.
